<descript>
Oregon Geologic Data Compilation (OGDC) is the result of a multi-year compilation project carried out by the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) with funding support from the U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS) STATEMAP program. The goal was to assemble a complete digital geologic map of Oregon using a standardized method and data structure. This feature class represents the boundaries between map units as depicted in the MapUnitPolys feature class, and key beds, dikes, and faults within map units, all held within this geodatabase. The attributes of this feature allow the authors to indicate their confidence in the identification and existence of geologic contacts, faults, key beds, and dikes. This geodatabase contains cartographic representations for line symbols from Sections 1 and 2 of FGDC Digital Cartographic Standard for Geologic Map Symbolization (FGDC Document Number FGDC-STD-013-2006).
<purpose>The vector lines in this feature class provide contact and geologic content for contact, key bed, dike, and fault segment locations. Vector lines from DOGAMI maps published between 2009 and 2014 were used to create the map unit polygon boundaries for those studies. The remaining vector lines were generated from the MapUnitPolys feature class that was previously digitized from older maps. </purpose>

<attraccr>Attributes for existing data were copied from the source data ContactsAndFaults feature classes in OGDC-7. No attempt was made to resolve known errors and NULL entries that reside in the source data. The attribute “-9999” was used for unknown values and -9 was used for no data, these values apply to the contacts created in the previous OGDC-7 project. Attribute accuracy of the database was visually inspected but despite the checks there may be some attributes that are still mislabeled.</attraccr>

<logic>Topology has been validated for this feature class, as defined by the USGS GeMS schema document GeMS (Geologic Map Schema)—A Standard Format for the Digital Publication of Geologic Maps. Additional, existing topology error have been recognized but were not corrected for this edition of the dataset. Tests for logical consistency were performed by ArcGIS Topology software. All points, lines, and polygons were visually checked, and are labeled correctly.</logic>

Select vector lines from the ContactsAndFaults feature class in OGDC-7 were corrected in order to adhere to the topology rules for GeMS. Known attribute errors like misspellings, mismatched Type to FGDC code, Null and 0 values, etc. were not addressed in this project.</complete>

<collTitle>Oregon Geologic Data Compilation, release 8 (OGDC-8)</collTitle>
</idCitation>
<idAbs>Oregon Geologic Data Compilation (OGDC) is the result of a multi-year compilation project carried out by the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) with funding support from the U.S. This geodatabase contains cartographic representations for line symbols from Sections 1 and 2 of FGDC Digital Cartographic Standard for Geologic Map Symbolization (FGDC Document Number FGDC-STD-013-2006).</idAbs>
<idPurp>The vector lines in this feature class provide contact and geologic content for contact, key bed, dike, and fault segment locations. Vector lines from DOGAMI maps published between 2009 and 2014 were used to create the map unit polygon boundaries for those studies. The remaining vector lines were generated from the MapUnitPolys feature class that was previously digitized from older maps.</idPurp>
<idCredit>Supported for release 8 in part by a grant from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) through the U.S. GeoFramework Initiative component of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (NCGMP) under cooperative agreement G20AC00419. Additional funds were provided by the State of Oregon through the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI).</idCredit>

<measDesc>Attributes for existing data were copied from the source data ContactsAndFaults feature classes in OGDC-7. No attempt was made to resolve known errors and NULL entries that reside in the source data. The attribute “-9999” was used for unknown values and -9 was used for no data, these values apply to the contacts created in the previous OGDC-7 project. Attribute accuracy of the database was visually inspected but despite the checks there may be some attributes that are still mislabeled.</measDesc>
