<abstract>Oregon Geologic Data Compilation (OGDC) is the result of a multi-year compilation project carried out by the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) with funding support from the U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS) STATEMAP program. The goal was to assemble a complete digital geologic map of Oregon from the best available published traditional geologic maps, using a standardized method and data structure, and to simplify data exchange amongst all users. This feature class contains map unit polygons that represent bedrock and surficial geologic units in Oregon. The attributes within this feature class are provided as a descriptive summary for each unit.</abstract>
<purpose>This feature class represents polygons that record the distribution of map units on the particular map horizon. The polygons in this feature class are units of consolidated (solid) rock that underlie soils or other unconsolidated materials and unconsolidated earth materials such as soils and sediments.</purpose>

<attraccr>Attributes for existing data were copied from the source data in the MapUnitPolys feature class in OGDC7. No attempt was made to resolve known errors and NULL entries that reside from the original authorship (i.e. Symbol and Notes attribute). Inconsistencies due to misspellings, differing capitalization, inaccurate data entry, etc. into the thematic information was fixed and updated. Attribute accuracy of the database was visually inspected but despite the checks there may be some attributes that are still mislabeled.</attraccr>

<logic>Topology has been validated for this feature class, as defined by the USGS GeMS schema document GeMS (Geologic Map Schema)—A Standard Format for the Digital Publication of Geologic Maps.Topology errors:0; topology exceptions: 421, MapUnitPolys must not have gaps are the boundary for the state of Oregon. Tests for logical consistency were performed by ArcGIS Topology software. All points, lines, and polygons were visually checked, and are labeled correctly.</logic>
<complete>Data collection does not include all possible historical sources and thereby is not complete. Not all existing attributes from OGDC-6 were applicable to this schema, and therefore were not included.</complete>

Therefore it has a highly variable horizontal positional accuracy throughout the state of Oregon. <procdesc>CMU names were assigned first by an existing Thematic Formation name, a Thematic Member name, a Thematic Unit name, or finally by a name created by combining the TerraneGroup name and the Thematic Rock Type attribute, or in some instances, the Thematic Lithology attribute. The CMU labels were created by combining the abbreviation for the TerraneGroup attribute (in upper-case letters) with the abbreviation for the Thematic Formation, Member, Sub-Unit, Rock Type or Lithology attribute (in lower-case letters) that was used for the CMU name.</procdesc>

<idAbs>Oregon Geologic Data Compilation (OGDC) is the result of a multi-year compilation project carried out by the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) with funding support from the U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS) STATEMAP program. The goal was to assemble a complete digital geologic map of Oregon from the best available published traditional geologic maps, using a standardized method and data structure, and to simplify data exchange amongst all users. This feature class contains map unit polygons that represent bedrock and surficial geologic units in Oregon. The attributes within this feature class are provided as a descriptive summary for each unit.</idAbs>
<idPurp>This feature class represents polygons that record the distribution of map units on the particular map horizon. The polygons in this feature class are units of consolidated (solid) rock that underlie soils or other unconsolidated materials and unconsolidated earth materials such as soils and sediments.</idPurp>
<idCredit>Supported for release 8 in part by a grant from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) through the U.S. GeoFramework Initiative component of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (NCGMP) under cooperative agreement G20AC00419.
